U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT RANKS JEWISH HOSPITAL AMONG NATION’S TOP 50 HOSPITALS

For the fourth consecutive year, Jewish Hospital has been ranked among the nation’s top 50 hospitals in U.S. News & World Report’s annual "America’s Best Hospitals" feature. Of the 5,462 hospitals evaluated for the 2007 report, only 173 received scores high enough to qualify for rankings in the 16 specialty areas. Jewish Hospital is the only hospital in Louisville and only one of three hospitals in Kentucky to make the list of the "50 Best Hospitals."

"Making ‘America’s Best Hospitals’ list, four years in a row, is a great accomplishment for Jewish Hospital.” said Deborah Molnar, chief operating officer for Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s HealthCare. “This is the third year in a row for heart care, two years in a row for respiratory and now we have been added to the list for neurology/neurosurgery and endocrinology. We are again being recognized as a center that takes on and excels at tough procedures and conditions. Jewish Hospital receives some of the sickest patients to provide advance care because Jewish Hospital has a reputation for pioneering new treatment guidelines and conducting research to improve care."

"This neurology ranking provides a sentinel level of national recognition of the tremendous strides forward we have recently made developing the region's first and only true continuum of excellence for stroke care,” said Neurologist James Gebel, M.D. “With our state-of-the-art emergency intervention for acute stroke to acute care in our neuroscience intensive care unit and stroke unit, to our world-class rehabilitation techniques at the Frazier Rehab and Neuroscience Center, and participation in numerous pivotal national and international acute stroke, stroke prevention, and rehabilitation clinical trials, Jewish Hospital doesn't simply just provide cutting-edge care -- but also defines and advances that cutting edge forward. Most importantly, this commitment to excellence provides hope for a normal life for many individual patients who would otherwise be permanently incapacitated by the devastating effects of stroke."

“We are here as a resource to our patients and we take pride in providing them great health care services, said Cardiothoracic surgeon Brian Ganzel, M.D. “If we get recognized along the way, that is just icing on the cake for us.”

In order to be considered, hospitals had to meet at least one of three criteria: membership in the Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems, affiliation with a medical school or availability of at least six out of 13 advanced services such as image-guided radiation and robotic surgery. Hospitals were assigned scores within each specialty area based on measures including their reputations among board-certified specialists; severity-adjusted mortality rates; and other factors, such as nurse-to-patient ratios and adoption of new technologies.

From primary and specialty care to disease management, rehab, and much more, Jewish Hospital is proud to offer exceptional healthcare all across Kentucky. To learn more about our facilities, visit our Health Network.
