Center for Gender-Specific Medicine

Watch an informative video about Mammograms. Find out what to expect.

Using “next generation” technology, Jewish Hospital Medical Center East (JHMCE) has created an enhanced mammography experience for its patients. At the facility, patients with abnormal mammography results can choose to progress from screening to diagnostic procedure to biopsy all in a single visit. The benefit to patients is that this new mammography service can eliminate weeks of anxiety and worry.

Center for Gender-Specific MedicineIn a routine mammography setting, a patient with abnormal results would have to schedule a separate patient visit to have an ultrasound performed, and then another patient visit to have an image-guided breast biopsy performed if necessary. Through the JHMCE Mammography Center, six to eight weeks worth of scheduled visits are removed – as well as patient anxiety – and compress that into a single patient visit if that is what the patient and her physician choose.

Another differentiating feature of Mammography Program is that Board-certified radiologists are on-site and are available to speak to patients regarding their mammography results immediately following the examination. Because the facility uses all digital and filmless technology, patient results are known immediately, again lessening the anxiety and worry for patients.

Center for Gender-Specific MedicineWhile the American College of Radiology only requires that radiologists read a minimum of 960 mammography studies over two years, the physicians associated with the JHMCE Mammography Program have averaged reading almost 23,000 mammography studies per year since 2000.

Jewish Hospital Medical Center East is the first and only multi-modality national show site for GE Medical Systems products in the areas of medical imaging, patient monitoring and non-invasive cardiology including gender-specific cardiac monitoring. The full-field digital mammography system used at JHMCE – the GE Senographe® 2000D – is the first and only full-field digital system eligible to receive Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) accreditation from the American College of Radiology. The unit has also earned approval from the Food & Drug Administration. The JHMCE mammography program is the only stand-alone digital mammography center in Kentucky to have received this accreditation.

Center for Gender-Specific MedicineWith the Senographe 2000D, patient examination time is reduced by half, and high-quality patient images are displayed in seconds, providing mammography technologists with quick verification of correct patient positioning. JHMCE’s full-field digital mammography system is the only system in Kentucky to feature GE Medical Systems new breast algorithm, Premium View, on its GE Senographe 2000D unit. Premium View optimizes image contrast and automatically displays more detailed information of dense breast tissue to better assess breast cancer.

Mammography patients at Jewish Hospital Medical Center East experience the ultimate in guest comfort, personal service, privacy and confidentiality. Private dressings rooms are adjacent to the mammography unit that features original glass art and inlaid hardwood floors. During the examination, patients wear spa-quality robes in lieu of typical patient examination gowns. Private, streamlined registration allows patients to proceed directly to the Center for Gender-Specific Medicine where the Mammography Unit is located. There is no waiting in crowded, public lobbies.
