Living Non-Related Donors

Jewish Hospital performed Kentucky's first non-related donor transplant in December, 1994. Per our protocol, this option for transplant will be presented to potential living donor recipients. National results to date indicate the success rates mirror those of blood-related living donors.

Laparoscopic Nephrectomy University of Louisville and Jewish Hospital transplant surgeon Frederick R. Bentley successfully completed Kentucky's first living donor laparoscopic nephrectomy. This procedure allows the surgeon to remove the kidney of a living donor through small incisions, rather than by the traditional large incision, thereby minimizing post-operative discomfort.
