Inpatient Rehab

Frazier Rehab Institute is committed to providing a full continuum of care for all patients. For stroke patients, Frazier’s involvement typically begins when the admission coordinator visits the patient in the acute hospital setting, wherever possible, to begin educating the families and preparing for the patient to enter rehab.

Inpatient rehab is common following a stroke. The focus is assisting patients in increasing their independence and providing training for caregivers to assist with a successful daily routine upon returning home. Therapy is extremely important following a stroke because it helps patients recover lost skills when possible and learn how to compensate for skills that do not return to normal functioning.

Upon admission, each rehab team member completes an evaluation and works with the patient, family and other team members to develop an individualized and integrated treatment plan. The patient and family are considered essential team members in this planning process. Our goal is to get the patient home and the family often holds the key to making this happen. Our team will use information about the family’s lifestyle and personal goals to help craft a plan for promoting the smoothest recovery and return to home.

The Frazier Inpatient Rehab Program operates seven days a week. Patients should expect to receive at least three hours of therapy, a minimum of five days a week. Inpatient therapy begins as early as 8 a.m. and can continue until approximately 4:30 p.m. Each patient’s schedule is adjusted as needed to best suit his/her progress and situation.

A patient’s therapy program may include:

  • Physical Therapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Speech-Language Therapy
  • Recreational Therapy
  • Pulmonary Therapy
  • Psychological Treatment

Some therapy may take place in the patient’s room, such as basic self-care activities involving grooming, dressing and hygiene. Other activities are better suited to spaces where the specialized therapy equipment is located. Most therapy sessions are provided one-on-one with patients. However, we also offer co-treatments (two therapy disciplines teaming up to treat the patient together) and group therapy when appropriate.
