Lung Cancer Center Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers in both men and women; more deadly than breast, colon and prostate cancers combined. The Lung Cancer Center at Jewish Hospital is helping to save one life at a time, and helping people continue to live with cancer. The Center was founded in December 1998 in an effort to coordinate medical care for patients with lung cancer and other primary cancers occurring in the chest or esophagus. Coordinated through the Jewish Hospital Heart and Lung Institute, the Lung Cancer Center provides access to an array of services and physicians, unique to this region. Expertise, Easy Access, and Quality Care The Center incorporates the latest research into action -- patients have the ability to receive the latest medical advances available. New drugs are continuously tested for effectiveness in treating various states of lung cancer. Also, persons at risk for the development of lung cancer can receive cancer screenings, which may allow for early detection. A medical staff of over forty physicians include the specialties of pulmonary medicine, thoracic surgery, pathology, radiology, medical oncology and radiation oncology. Care is provided at multiple sites throughout Louisville and Shelbyville, Kentucky and Southern Indiana to provide lung cancer patients with easy access to specialized medical care and treatments. The Center also works closely with referring physicians (primary care doctors) to assist with follow-up care. The Center breaks the barriers and brings together the talents and experiences of a diverse group of individuals and healthcare organizations with a single goal to impact the lung cancer incidence and mortality rates.
