Promotion of Advanced Education
Certification in a nursing specialty is encouraged by the nursing department. To demonstrate this commitment, the Nursing Department supports a certification reimbursement program. In an effort to promote certification, Jewish Hospital will pay the application fee one time regardless of the nurse’s success in passing. If the nurse is not successful, he/she is encouraged to retake the exam within six months at his or her own expense. For more information on Nursing Continuing Education programs at Jewish Hospital, contact the Nursing Education (502) 587-2585. Orientation and staff development A comprehensive orientation program is scheduled for each new employee. Each employee is assessed for learning needs, and the orientation is tailored to meet those needs. Orientation includes general classroom orientation, critical care classes, and unit specific orientation and computer classes. Each orientee is paired with a preceptor to facilitate clinical orientation. Length of orientation varies based on individual needs and experience.
