Informatics
Jewish Hospital is committed to exploring and deploying the latest technology available to enhance patient outcomes and patient and team member satisfaction. Our electronic ICU (eICU®) utilizes an elaborate network of cameras, monitors, and two-way communication links, to allow doctors and critical care nurses at the eICU® command center make virtual rounds of patients. Physician intensivists can monitor the condition of patients, check vital sign, Xray, and laboratory data, and communicate with physicians, hospital staff, patients, or family members. This integrated system of care helps to insure the safest environment possible for our ICU patients. Our MedAdmin system enhances patient safety through the use of barcode verification technology at the point of care. Utilizing a wireless scanner, the nurse scans the patient’s ID band and medications. Bedside monitors display verification of the five rights and provide information to the nurse on potential drug interactions and allergies. These bedside devices, in addition to mobile carts and computers at the nursing station, give the nurse the flexibility to document in a variety of settings. These devices also provide access to digital radiography images, policy and procedure manuals, patient education materials, annual competency training, on-line literature search capabilities and access to online journals.
