Research
The Nursing Research Program of Jewish Hospital is grounded in the belief that research is an integral component of professional nursing practice. A number of mechanisms have been established to assist nurses in their research pursuits. The nursing department employs a Nurse Researcher to stimulate development of research studies and promote communication of research activities. The Nursing Research Council, which consists of nurses at all levels throughout the institution, in addition to community representatives, promotes and oversees nursing research activities and the integration of research into practice. Financial support for research is available through the Coleman Fund for Nursing Research, through the Jewish Hospital and St. Mary's Foundation. Online literature search capabilities, as well as access to online journals, are available at point-of-care computer terminals on all patient care units. The Medical Library provides literature searches for nursing staff upon request. The Nursing Research Council coordinates the Annual Nursing Research Symposium, which features one or more nurse researchers who present “state of the science” summaries of research findings on clinically relevant topics with a focus on application in practice. The symposium is co-sponsored by local chapters of Sigma Theta Tau.
