Shared Leadership Jewish Hospital supports and encourages decision-making at all levels, facilitated through a council structure. There are six nursing councils: (1) Professional Recognition and Advancement, (2) Practice, (3) Education, (4) Quality Assessment and Improvement, (5) Research and (6) Recruitment and Retention. Each council is co-chaired by a staff nurse. Nursing staff relay practice concerns and suggestions to their unit council representative who reports the information back to the council. Information is shared at the council meetings and cycles quickly to staff for feedback. This constant flow of information facilitates participation in decision-making. The Coordinating Council consists of chairs of each of the councils, along with nursing administrators. The Coordinating Council integrates the work of all nursing councils and serves as a communication link with all areas of nursing practice on the Jewish Hospital Medical Campus.
